Using our FTP Server
What is FTP?
FTP, or File Transfer Protocol, is
an efficient and fast means of securely transferring large amounts of data between
two computers via the Internet. Our FTP server is basically a
virtual file cabinet. You upload your files to our server, which
provides the storage place from which they enter our system for us to
provide the services you've requested. Similarly, we'll
transfer retouched image files back to you the same way.

Do I need a high speed Internet connection?
Because of the size of image
files, a high speed connection is recommended. It can sometimes take
over an hour to transfer a single image via a dial-up connection.

Do I need any special software?
You can use your browser for ftp
transfers, but for larger numbers of files, we'd recommend using a separate
software program called an FTP Client. It gives you greater control
over your transfers, and some FTP Clients are able to transfer files
faster than others.
Most FTP Clients will have a
similar interface... they'll show you a split screen with a list of files
located on your computer and a list of folders located on the server.
Shareware or freeware programs, usually with limited usage or possibly
with advertising on them, can be downloaded for free on the Internet, while
ad-free or tech-supported full versions are
available for purchase at a very reasonable cost. Some popular FTP
Clients include:

What will I see when I log onto your server?
You'll see a group of folders
indicating different categories of services we offer. You can double-click
on a folder to open it and then transfer your files to it, or most FTP
Clients will allow you to drag and drop your files into a folder without
opening it. It's just like moving files around on your own
computer.

Can anyone else see my files when they're on
your server?
No. You have your own private
directories and folders accessible only with your unique username and
password. You don't share common space on the server with other clients.

I'm not so sure about this...
If you'd like help getting
started, give us a call at 269--849-0416 to schedule a walk-through.
We'll be glad to talk you through the process step-by-step. (To do
this, you'll need to be able to talk on the phone while sitting in front
of a computer that's connected to the Internet.)
